La Profesión de la Traducción no ha evolucionado al igual que las demás profesiones ni se ha agremiado. Hasta fines de siglo pasado y principios de este la globalización ya nos obliga a asociarnos.

Translation as a profession has not evolved as other professions nor has it organized. Until the XX century and to date, globalization is encouraging our professional association.

ORLANDO, toda una trayectoria, una vida dedicada a la traducción, la investigación, la política y las relaciones humanas. Una de las cosas que más me impactó es su espíritu de servicio.  Llama sobremanera la experiencia que nos narra de cómo tuvo que interpretar a tres idiomas al mismo tiempo. 

ORLANDO, a long trajectory, a life dedicated to translation, research, politics and human relations. Remarkable impact caused by his service spirit. Notorious experience when he shares the time when he had to interpret into three languages… simultaneously.

ANDRE nos comparte su investigación sobre las variaciones dialectales y no sólo nos deleita con sus conceptos y sus hallazgos sino que nos hace participantes de ella y nos involucra en las dificultades que implica.

ANDRE – shares his research into dialectical variations and not only serves tasty concepts and findings but makes us participants and involves us in the implied difficulties.

VIKKI nos mete de lleno al campo de la interpretación. Nos habla de la necesidad de adaptar el propio trabajo al Ethos de los interlocutores. Pero sin usar la retórica aristotélica sino ejemplos concretos y sobre todo muy divertidos que nos ayudaron a vencer el letargo natural que habría sobrevenido por ser la hora después de la comida.

VIKKI – full immersion into the interpretation field. She talks about the need to adapt our own work to the interlocutor’s Ethos. But without using Aristotelian rhetoric but with concrete examples and above all, so funny that they helped us overcome the natural somnolence that had overtaken us after lunch.

SALVADOR nos abre las puertas y las ventanas (Windows)  a un software que la mayoría de nosotros usamos más no aprovechamos.  Me llamó la atención particularmente el hecho de poder seleccionar texto en columnas cuando viene en otro formato. Muchos atajos que pueden ahorrarnos mucho tiempo.

TECHNICALITIES GALORE…

SALVADOR – opens the doors and Windows to software that must of us use, but not take advantage of. He called my attention in particular to the feature of selecting text in columns when it is in a different format. Many shortcuts that can help save precious time.

DONALD nos lleva en una especie de cohete espacial.  Desde el nivel del mar donde todos nos encontramos más o menos aterrizados hasta los 50 mil pies de altura.  Nos enseña Mundo y La visión estratégica de quienes compran nuestro trabajo y pagan por él. Nos llama a aprovechar ese conocimiento para nuestra ventaja competitiva.

DON – takes us on a space voyage. From sea level where must of us are landed to over 50 thousand feet of altitude. He shares an eagle’s view of the Global World and the strategic vision of those that purchase our services and pay for them. He challenges and endeavors us to take advantage of this knowledge for our competitive advantage.

ROSALIE,  ¡Ah!  La tecnología…    Pero deliciosamente explicada en términos llanos, simples, concretos y prácticos. Se concentra en nuestro oficio. Pero nos abre los ojos a las herramientas más sofisticadas.  Encantadora presentación que logra despertar el interés y la “conversión” de muchos incrédulos.

ROSALIE – Ah! Technology… delightfully explained in layman terms, simple and concrete, practical. She focuses in our trade. But opens our eyes to the most sophisticated tools. Delightful presentation that awakens our interest and “conversion” of many non believers!

Regresa CHAMPOLLION,  Y el filósofo se convierte en ingeniero y cibernauta!  ¡Guau!  Y yo creía conocer WORDFAST  Tan sólo el poder regresar en un segmento es un ahorro de tiempo que me vuelve a doblar la productividad.  Tantas cosas que están ahí en la punta de los dedos.  Fácil. Y como dice el muy mexicano dicho: BUENO, BONITO Y BARATO….

MONSIEUR CHAMPOLLION is back, the philosopher turns engineer and cyber- voyager WOW! And I thought I knew all about WORDFAST! Just being able to go back one segment is a time saving trick that doubles my productivity once again. So many things at our fingertips. Easy, and as we say in Mexico, GOOD, NICE & INEXPENSIVE

REGRESA SALVADOR y los papeles se INVIERTEN,  del tecnólogo al filólogo…   Qué palabras van con cuales y por qué!   Deliciosa ensalada multilenguaje.

MERCEDES, Si no está en el diccionario,  no necesariamente es incorrecto el uso.  La brecha infranqueable entre el español escrito y el oral.  Dios de Dios nos ampare y nos proteja de la noción lógico-matemático-psicológica de la obra.  Traduttore, traditore, but for the rain in Spain!  Si Salvador nos dio la ensalada,  Mercedes nos sirvió, todo un festín.

MERCEDES – if it is not in the dictionary, it is not necessarily wrong to use it.  The insurmountable gap between written and oral Spanish. God save us from the logical-mathematical-psychological notions of the work at hand. Traduttore, traditore, but for the rain in Spain! If Salvador served the salad, Mercedes served a king’s banquet!

RICARDO ESPINOSA… Después de la comida.  Ricardo fue el postre….  Nos deleitó con una divertidísima pero sesuda disertación sobre el Español de México,  Con nuestro léxico propio y personalidad diferente. Un verdadero y suculento platillo de buen humor.
